As told by Rolling Stone,

“One night, very late, Winslet and DiCaprio were lying on the deck during a break. An assistant approached for food orders. ‘Leo was so tired,’ Winslet recalls; he had his head on her stomach và asked for a sandwich. ‘The assistant asked, ‘What bởi vì you want on it?’ and Leo said, ‘Oh, Kate will tell you.’ and Leo just kind of fell asleep. & I did know exactly what he wanted, this kind of cheese và no tomato and no pickle. I absolutely knew. Và I thought, ‘God, that’s really weird that I know this person so well.’ It was brilliant.”

The truth of the matter is, Winslet and DiCaprio never “fancied” each other. The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actress tells Rolling Stone that any kind of thắm thiết relationship between them would feel too “incestuous” because they are lượt thích siblings. Plus, the two need each other as tư vấn systems, và it would be more difficult for them khổng lồ maintain that sort of support if they entered a romantic relationship.

“In a lot of ways, Kate và I have really grown up in this industry together,” says DiCaprio. “We’ve been a tư vấn mechanism for each other for such a long period of time. We’ve been there for each other và helped guide each other.”

Regarding their strictly platonic relationship, Winslet admits, “I think the reason that friendship works is because there was never any lãng mạn thing. It’s so disappointing for people to hear that because, in the soap opera of the Kate & Leo story, we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but we never did.” Winslet then says, “We needed each other khổng lồ lean on because we were very young & working all kinds of crazy bloody hours và it was a shock to lớn the system.”

Although Winslet has said on multiple occasions that she and DiCaprio have a brother-sister relationship, there was one point during the making of Titanic where she found herself attracted to lớn her best friend. (Or at least attracted to lớn the character he was portraying.) Her feelings got muddled during the scene where Jack & Rose are intimate for the first time in the touring car. Surrounded by steam & passion, Winslet explains to Rolling Stone that the “Rose” in her loved the “Jack” in DiCaprio, which ended up creating some complex feelings.

“Doing that scene,” Winslet tells Rolling Stone, “it so wasn’t us. And yet we were so locked into what all that had lớn be about. The Rose in me was really sort of loving the Jack in him. Và even though I didn’t feel that way about Leo, it was quite nice to lớn sort of feel that way in the scene. It was quite lovely. & then, y’know, the camera stopped rolling, và he gets up & walks off, & the scene’s done. Và I remember lying there thinking, ‘What a shame that’s over.’ Because it was quite nice. It was.”
